Dr. Underwood has been in practice since 1985, and with Hartford Medical Group since 1995. He graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, CT where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 1982. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT in 1985 and completed a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Connecticut in 1990. He received his Board Certification in Internal Medicine in 1985 and in Geriatric Medicine in 1990. Prior to joining Hartford Medical Group, Dr. Underwood held the academic position of Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, CT from 1990 to 1995, with most of his clinical and teaching responsibilities based at Newington VA Medical Center. He received a Kaiser Permanente Award for excellence in medical student teaching in 1994. He is currently the Site Director for the Clinical Education of medical residents at Hartford Medical Group. His outside interests include long distance running, cross country skiing, and music.
