He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA degree in Psychology in 1975, and from Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC with a Physician Assistant certificate in 1979. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
